HLLAPI
Session Name
HLLAPI (High Level Language Application Programming Interface) allows external
programs to communicate with IBM host computers using a 3270, 5250, VT
or Wyse terminal emulation program as the communication medium. The HLLAPI
standard was defined initially by IBM. More recently, HLLAPI has been
revised and updated by IBM, Microsoft and a consortium of IBM terminal
emulation vendors.
The HLLAPI session short name and session long name allow HLLAPI applications to identify individual 3270, 5250, VT, SCO-ANSI and Wyse terminal emulation sessions. The HLLAPI session short name appears in parenthesis in the upper left corner of the PASSPORT title bar for session identification. PASSPORT does not allow two sessions to have the same HLLAPI session short name.
Automatically select
If the Automatically Select
option is used, PASSPORT will automatically select the next available
session short name and session long name. Session short names begin with
A, then B, then C, and progress through the alphabet to letter Z. Session long names begin with SessionA,
then SessionB, then SesionC,
and continue through the alphabet to SessionZ.
Manually Specify
If the Manually Specify option is selected, you must manually enter the
session short name and session long name. This may be necessary if your
HLLAPI application is hard-coded to a particular session short name and
cannot be changed.
Short
Name
You may enter a single alphabet character (A to Z)
to identify the session Short Name.
HLLAPI applications use the HLLAPI short name to identify which session
it is communicating with. Lower case is automatically converted to upper
case.
Long
Name
You may enter a string of up to eight characters to identify the session
Long Name. This name may
be used by HLLAPI applications for session identification.
