PASSPORT WEB TO HOST Version 21.1.2 Enhancements (March 30, 2018)

PASSPORT WEB TO HOST® 21.1.2 introduces many new enhancements. The following is a comprehensive list:

PASSPORT WEB TO HOST Version 2012 Enhancements (Version 21.1.1)

PASSPORT WEB TO HOST® 21.1.1 introduces a number of enhancements, some new and some previously available with previous versions through a specific patch.

Using the latest Microsoft development technologies, PASSPORT WEB TO HOST has an updated look and feel that is compatible with today's Microsoft Office applications. Notably, the menu bar, toolbar and button bar have the updated Microsoft Windows® look and feel.

Express Logon Feature (ELF)

The Express Logon Feature allows TN3270 user to securely log onto a host application through the startup macro without sending user ID and password. The PASSPORT client must be configured for SSL with client authentication. Also the TN3270 server must be set up for ELF support.

Option for SSL/TLS through Telnet negotiation

If this option is selected, PASSPORT WEB TO HOST Client first negotiates the TLS/SSL security through Telnet option START_TLS (as defined by IETF) and then starts SSL handshaking if agreed by both PASSPORT and the server. Prior to this implementation PASSPORT only supports implicit TLS/SSL connection, i.e. immediately starting TLS/SSL handshaking after connection is made.

IPv6 Support

Previously available as patch, this version now includes full support for IPv6 for the terminal emulation and FTP clients, including SSL/SSH mode. Compatibility with IPv4 is also maintained.

Custom Screen Size for TN3270

This feature allows system programmers to create larger screen sizes than the standard model2 through model5 available. This is very useful for larger display screens or where a lot of output (such as log files) needs to be viewed as a whole.

Full APL Font Support

Prior to this version, full APL support was accomplished only with a PASSPORT True Type Font, while limited support was available with PASSPORT Terminal Font and Thin Font. With this release, PASSPORT PC TO HOST now fully supports APL with any font, including a general Windows True Type and Raster Font.

HLLAPI Enhancements

PASSPORT PC TO HOST has always supported HLLAPI functions, allowing customers with commercially-licensed or user-written programs for HLLAPI (and a competitor emulator), to work with PASSPORT without any change to the legacy code. In this version, we have added support for the following HLLAPI functions:

Response Time Displayed in OIA, Addition of Divider Line

The response time in which the host responds to AID keys (such as ENTER) can now be displayed in the Operator Information Area (OIA). Additionally, we have added a divider line to help separate this area from the host screen.

Auto Complete

The Auto Complete feature recalls what the user has typed and automatically pops up a list of suggestions to choose from. The list of suggestions can be configured to come from the particular field or all host screens and characteristics can be customized to suit end-user requirements. This feature is available for 3270 and 5250 sessions only.

Spell Checking

This version now supports spell checking. There are two main spell checking options: "Check spelling as you type" and "Automatically correct spelling as you type". This feature requires Microsoft Word installed and is available for 3270 and 5250 sessions only.

Configure Communication Settings by Client

This version now allows WEB TO HOST Client to make changes to communication parameters and save it at local PC if "Local Communication Settings" is enabled by Admin program. In previous versions WEB TO HOST Client can customize and save keyboard and other attributes, such as color, font, etc.

Miscellaneous Enhancements

Version 2010-430 Enhancements (April 30, 2010)

Blinking Attribute Support

PASSPORT WEB TO HOST now supports true blinking on host screen and also the blinking interval can be customized. In summary the blinking text can now be displayed as:

Word Wrap for Pasting (Block Paste Mode)

If enabled, words that would normally overrun the right side of the host screen or field are automatically placed on the next line and aligned with the original cursor position when the paste was performed.

Version 2009-619 Enhancements (June 19, 2009)

PASSPORT Localization

PASSPORT WEB TO HOST introduces user interface support for 6 major international languages. The installation process, as well as the QuickStart instructions, are also internationalized. You can go to View->Language to switch between these 7 languages:

Error Message or Warning Help

PASSPORT WEB TO HOST gains an associated ID and Help button for every error message or warning. If you click the Help button on the dialog box, you will be directed to the Help file for a detailed explanation, as well as possible causes and solutions.

Version 2007-1516-1 Enhancements (May 16, 2008)

Client and server version mismatch

It's strongly recommended that PASSPORT WEB TO HOST client version matches with WEB TO HOST server version. However if the client machine can't download latest PASSPORT WEB TO HOST Client ActiveX component due to permission settings, IE security settings, etc., the existing WEB TO HOST client (version 2004-3722-3 and prior) will be allowed to communicate with this latest WEB TO HOST server and then continue connecting to the host, however, with limited functionality. ALL PCs running WEB TO HOST Client must be configured to allow the downloading, installing and running of ActiveX components, or else unpredictable results may occur.

Client Install

WEB TO HOST Client install MSI setup will be automatically installed on WEB TO HOST server. If end users have any problem to download and install WEB TO HOST ActiveX component through Internet Explorer, they can instead download the client install MSI setup from WEB TO HOST website and then install it manually. This can be done by clicking Download button on the WEB TO HOST Client website.

Version 2007-1228 Enhancements (December 28, 2007)

IBM WebSphere Application Server Version 6 Supported

New Terminal Emulation

Microsoft SSL Security

PASSPORT WEB TO HOST now uses the royalty-free Microsoft Secure Channel (SChannel) security package for SSL security. For no additional charge, each PASSPORT session now has the option of securely connecting to a TN3270, TN5250 or VT host using SSL. The following configurable options are also provided:

Secure FTP File Transfer

The PASSPORT FTP Client now features SSL (FTPS) and SSH (SFTP) security.

FTPS provides a secure file transfer through the use of the SSL layer, found below the standard FTP protocol, and encrypts the control and/or data channels. PASSPORT FTP implements FTPS according to IETF RFC 4217 Securing FTP with TLS. The PASSPORT FTP Client connects to a standard FTP server port 21 and begins an unencrypted FTP session as it normally would, then requests that SSL security be used through the AUTH TLS command and performs the necessary SSL handshaking.

The following SSL configuration options are available beginning with the 2007 version of PASSPORT FTP Client:

PASSPORT FTP Client also supports SSH File Transfer (SFTP). SFTP relies on the SSH protocol to provide secure file transfer. The PASSPORT SFTP is based on the PuTTY SSH implementation for Win 32.

Hotspots and Hotspot Customization

PASSPORT WEB TO HOST now provides the ability to detect certain areas of a screen as hotspot areas. These hotspot areas are typical text strings such as ENTER, PF1, CLEAR, and so forth. The user can move the mouse to the top of this text and double click a mouse button which instructs PASSPORT to send the appropriate host key back to the host. Hotspots can be made visible or invisible. If visible, the hotspot text will appear similar to a Windows dialog box button that indicates the text is a hotspot. Also, the list of hotspot text strings can be customized and configured to execute a PASSPORT macro. Hotspots can be customized either in the administrator or in the client.

Row and Column Indicator on OIA Line

A row and column cursor position indicator is now displayed in the lower right portion of the screen in the Operator Information Area (OIA) line. This indicates the current position of the cursor position. This indicator can be turned on or off in either the administrator or during a client emulation session. In the administrator, check or un-check the "Show Cursor Position on OIA Line" check box in the Cursor tab of any Attribute profile. The Attribute profile must then be associated with a session profile to take affect. In a client emulation session, check or un-check the "Show Cursor on OIA Line" check box in the Options->Cursor dialog box.

Color Selection using Color Palette

The color selection for text on the screen can now include any color available from the Windows color palette. The Entry Assist key toggles between entry assist mode (also referred to as document mode) and normal mode. The symbols "DOC" appear on the OIA (Operator Information Area) status line to indicate that entry assist mode is active. When active, the Tab, BackTab and NewLine keys operate differently. The Tab and BackTab keys navigate to the next field or tab stop. The NewLine key goes to the left margin on the next line or to the first field. The Word Wrap key, that can only be used when entry assist mode is active, toggles between word wrap mode and normal mode. The symbols "WW" appear on the OIA status line to indicate that word wrap mode is active. When active, any word being typed that would overrun the right margin is place at the left margin of the next line if possible. The Change Format key, that can only be used when entry assist mode is active, provides the ability to set the left and right margin, reset the margins, set the bell margin position, and set and clear tab positions.

FTP Enhancements

Additional FTP server formats are now supported. This ensures the correct listing of file name, file type, file date and other file attribute information. The FTP Help File is now in HTML format instead of Windows Help format.

Administrator Action Log

A new column of information has been added to the Administrator Action Log to determine the maximum number of concurrent sessions used during the day. This value is incremented or decremented whenever a session is acquired or released. The total number of users connected to the mainframe is shown for each hourly time period of the day.

Keyboard and Attribute Settings Can Be Modified by User and Saved Locally

This version of eClient allows users to modify keyboard and attribute settings, then save keyboard and attribute profiles directly to the hard disk of the local workstation. This feature can be disabled for particular users and/or groups by the administrator. Roaming users can be created by the administrator by specifying a network drive to save local eClient files.

Action Log

All administrator changes to PASSPORT eClient configuration files are now recorded to an action log on the server. To customize or view the action log use the Tools -> action log menu command in PASSPORT administrator program.

Microsoft Internet Explorer Included

The Microsoft IE 5.0 zipped executable can be optionally loaded onto the NT/2000 or OS/390 Web server along with PASSPORT. Then, IE 5.0 can be installed to user workstations from the eClient or eClient Administrator websites.

Parameter Override

This feature allows certain connection parameters to be overridden when an eClient session is started. This gives administrators the ability to create a small number of "standard" session profiles then override connection parameters, such as Host Name, LU Name, etc. at runtime on the Web server. For more information, refer to the technical reference section of the Administrator Help file.

Ability To Save Session Layouts

This version of PASSPORT eClient allows users to save the layout of their sessions including the number of sessions, size and location. When the View->Save Session Layout menu command is selected the user is prompted to enter a name for the Session Layout, thus allowing for multiple layouts. A desktop icon is also created as a Windows shortcut to the Session Layout.

Button Bar 3

A third button bar is now available for easy navigation and arrangements of PASSPORT windows. Button bar 3 allows users to tile, cascade and minimize sessions as well as jump directly to a session. Button bar 3 is enabled at startup by default, but like button bars 2 and 3, can be disabled at startup using an attribute profile.

Button Bar Customization

All three button bars can be customized to send a host key, execute a menu command, run a system macro or perform a window tiling function. This is done through the attribute profile assigned to the session by the site administrator. The administrator can also optionally permit certain users or groups of users to customize their own button bars.

DNS Fail Over Support

This version of PASSPORT eClient has the ability to resolve a list of IP addresses that are configured for a host name on an internal DNS Server. PASSPORT eClient will connect to the first host with an available resource based on the list of detected IP addresses. If the first IP address fails, eClient then attempts to connect to the next IP address in the list until all IP host addresses are exhausted.

Dead Key Support

This version of PASSPORT eClient includes International dead key support. This support allows for special characters such as accents (á), circumflex (â), etc. In order to take advantage of this feature, a language that includes these type of characters must first be selected (Canadian French, Spanish, etc.). Once the correct language has been selected the user can type the special character by first pressing the appropriate dead key followed by the corresponding alpha character.

Internet Explorer Menu and Toolbar Can Be Enabled/Disabled at Startup

This feature allows administrators to enable/disable the Internet Explorer menu as well as the Standard, Address Bar and Links toolbars at startup. All PASSPORT eClient button bars and the eClient tool bar can be configured to be enabled/disabled at startup as well.

Session Usage Log

PASSPORT eClient is licensed on a concurrent user basis. The Tools -> View Session Usage menu command in the Administrator can be used to determine how many users are using eClient.

Version 4.0-0316 Enhancements (March 16, 2000)

TN5250 Support

This version of PASSPORT eClient now supports TN5250 display sessions for connection to AS/400 systems. The session profiles are configured similarly to TN3270 sessions. Once TN5250 sessions are configured, they can be assigned to users and/or groups of users.

VT100 Support

This version of PASSPORT eClient now supports Telnet VT52 and VT100 display sessions for connection to UNIX and DEC systems. The session profiles are configured similarly to TN3270 sessions. Once VT100 sessions are configured, they can be assigned to users and/or groups of users.

IBM OS/390 HTTP Web Server Support

There is no need to have an intermediate Web server between the IBM OS/390 mainframe and the client. PASSPORT eClient can now be deployed directly from the IBM OS/390 HTTP Web Server, thus providing a 2-tier solution. All configurations should be done on a Windows 95, 98 or NT workstation and, once configuration has been completed, these files are then transferred to the OS/390 Open Edition using FTP.

Version 3.0-1015 Enhancements (October 15, 1999)

Users and Groups

In this release it is now possible to create users and groups in addition to session profiles. Session profiles can be assigned to individual users and to groups of users. Users can be assigned to groups. This feature provides flexibility in administering sessions to users.

TN3270E Host Printer Sessions

IBM 3287 LU Type 1 (DSC) and LU Type 3 (SCS) printer sessions are now supported. Printer selection, font selection, page setup, host code pages, specific and associated printer LU names, transparent printing and printer setup strings are some of the many features supported in host printing.

More Fonts

In addition to the PASSPORT terminal font two more fonts have been added: a PASSPORT thin font, and a PASSPORT true type font. The PASSPORT thin font is a raster bit-map font similar to the thicker PASSPORT terminal font. This font is recommended for low resolution PC displays such as 640x480, or for 132 column model 5 screen display with 1024x768 PC screen resolution. The PASSPORT true type font provides many screen sizes, and is recommended for PC screen resolutions that are 1024x768 and higher.

Startup Defaults

The startup defaults for hotspot visibility, toolbar and button bars can be individually set to be either on or off. This is configured by the administrator in the attributes profile.
